6 September 2023: Mother and Father annual deliberation over this year's Halloween couples costume.

Dear Diary and Lost Souls,

Ah, the sweet scent of impending doom fills the air, which can only mean one thing: Halloween is nearing further. Today, in the dimly lit parlor where feelings go to wither, Mother and Father began their annual deliberation over this year's Halloween couples costume. It's a cherished Addams family tradition, one that brings me as much joy as a funeral on a rainy day.

I overheard them reminiscing about their past 'couple costume' escapades. Oh, the horror! One year, they decided to invert roles. Mother donned a Gomez costume, complete with a pinstripe suit and a plastic cigar, while Father took to the floor in a Morticia dress, which was both haunting and a sight that would give nightmares to any therapist. The neighbors never quite looked at us the same way after that.

Another year, they got creative with a "Gomez and Morticia Addams costume" that had a twist. They went as each other's shadows. How they managed it is beyond me, but they did. It was eerily poetic, just like them. Every time someone asked them about their costume, they'd respond, "We are but mere reflections of each other's dark souls." How... romantic?

And then there was the time they chose the most frightening Halloween couple costume of all: normal suburban parents. Father wore khaki pants and a polo shirt, while Mother sported a pastel summer dress. Truly the stuff of nightmares, and by far the most terrifying they've ever looked.

Today, amidst their discussions, they seemed to be leaning towards the classics. "Why not embrace our true essence?" Mother mused. They're considering wearing authentic Gomez and Morticia Addams costumes, drawing inspiration from their own portraits that hang in the hall. I must admit, it would be quite fitting. After all, who better to emulate the perfect Halloween couple costume than themselves?

As for me, I've been pondering my own ensemble. Perhaps I'll go as something truly horrifying, like an optimist.

Until tomorrow, diary and lost souls, when the darkness will inevitably continue to unfold.

Forever drenched in sarcasm,

Wednesday
